Research. Collaboration. Better Breast Care.
Building a national network of breast centres and professionals to support collaborative research, education, workforce development, service improvement and high-quality multidisciplinary breast care across Egypt.
Building Collaboration Across Egypt
Meaningful national collaboration begins with understanding the centres delivering breast cancer care, the professionals working within them and the opportunities where collective action can make a difference. ESBS is establishing a structured national network to support future research, education, professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
ESBS-RDI-001
National Breast Surgery Services & Workforce Development Initiative
The first phase of ESBS-RDI-001 is establishing a national network of participating breast centres together with nominated local institutional leads and collaborators.
Centres wishing to participate in this initiative and future ESBS collaborative activities are invited to complete the Centre Registration & Participation Declaration.
Understanding Today. Supporting Tomorrow.
ESBS-RDI-001 is designed to develop a clearer national understanding of breast surgical services, multidisciplinary practice, workforce development opportunities and priorities for future collaboration.
What the initiative aims to support
- Collaboration between participating breast centres.
- Future educational and professional development programmes.
- Better understanding of workforce and training priorities.
- Collaborative research and national survey activity.
- Service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Future ESBS strategic planning and partnerships.
What the initiative is not
- It is not an inspection programme.
- It is not an accreditation exercise.
- It is not a ranking system.
- It is not an assessment of individual surgeons.
- It is not intended to publicly compare participating centres.
Introduction to Research & Project Initiation
ESBS Research, Development & Quality Initiatives Programme
ESBS is planning an introductory webinar in approximately two weeks for colleagues and participating centres interested in becoming involved in ESBS research and collaborative projects.
The session will introduce the ESBS research programme, discuss how collaborative projects are developed, outline the role of participating centres and local leads, and introduce the principles of research governance and project initiation.
The confirmed date, programme and access information will be announced shortly.
How to Join the ESBS Network
Centre registration is designed to be straightforward while ensuring appropriate institutional awareness and a clear local point of contact.
Review the Guidance
Review the ESBS participation principles and discuss participation with the appropriate colleagues within your institution.
Sign the Declaration
Download the ESBS-RDI-001 Institutional Participation Declaration and obtain the appropriate institutional signature and stamp.
Register the Centre
Complete one online Centre Registration & Participation Declaration and upload the signed institutional document.
Participate & Collaborate
Registered centres may subsequently be invited to relevant ESBS surveys, research collaborations, educational programmes and quality initiatives.
Categories of Centre Participation
These categories describe how a registered centre may engage with ESBS. They are ESBS collaboration categories, not statutory classifications under Egyptian law. The regulatory and governance pathway for each individual project will depend on the nature of that project.
Participating Centre
A registered institution that wishes to receive information about ESBS national initiatives and consider participation in appropriate surveys, educational programmes and collaborative projects. Registration itself does not commit the centre to every future ESBS project.
Collaborating Centre
A registered centre that elects to take an active role in an individual ESBS project. Participation remains subject to the protocol, eligibility criteria, institutional requirements and governance arrangements specified for that project.
Research Partner Centre
A centre contributing more substantially to the development or delivery of an appropriate collaborative research project. Responsibilities, data requirements, governance, contributor recognition and authorship arrangements should be defined for the individual project.
Educational & Quality Initiative Centre
A registered centre participating in appropriate educational, workforce-development, service-development or quality-improvement activities. Where an activity develops into research involving humans or their medical data, the appropriate research-governance pathway must be addressed before research activity begins.
Egyptian Research Governance Framework
Clinical medical research: Egyptian Law No. 214 of 2020 applies to clinical medical research conducted on humans and their medical data at research entities in Egypt. Consequently, centre registration with ESBS should not be treated as permission to commence a clinical medical research project.
Project-specific review: ESBS will distinguish registration in the collaborative network from approval to undertake an individual research project. Appropriate institutional, ethical, regulatory and other requirements should therefore be addressed for each project according to its design and scope.
Participant protection: Where a project falls within clinical medical research, participant rights, safety, confidentiality and applicable Good Clinical Practice requirements must be addressed through the relevant project governance arrangements.
Personal information: Patient-identifiable information must not be submitted through the ESBS centre-registration process. Handling of electronically processed personal data should also take account of Egypt’s applicable personal-data protection framework.
Important: The ESBS participation categories above are operational collaboration categories. They do not replace review by the appropriate institutional research ethics committee, regulatory authority or other competent body where such review is required.
Institutional Participation Declaration
Before completing the online centre registration, download the ESBS-RDI-001 Institutional Participation Declaration.
The document should be completed and signed by an appropriately authorised institutional representative and stamped where applicable.
The completed document should then be scanned and uploaded during the online centre-registration process.
Download Institutional DeclarationBefore Uploading
- Complete the participating institution details.
- Confirm the nominated local institutional lead.
- Obtain an authorised signature.
- Apply the official institutional stamp where applicable.
- Scan the completed document clearly.
- Do not include patient-identifiable information.
Centre Registration Is Open
Once the Institutional Participation Declaration is ready, complete the online registration for your centre. Please submit one registration for each participating institution.
A Clear Framework for Participation
One Registration per Centre
Each participating institution should submit one centre registration to establish its institutional record within the ESBS collaborative network.
Nominated Local Lead
Each centre nominates a local institutional lead to act as its principal contact and coordinate communication with appropriate local colleagues.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Centres may identify collaborators from breast surgery and the wider multidisciplinary team who may contribute to appropriate ESBS initiatives.
Voluntary Participation
Registration enables future collaboration but does not commit an institution to participate in every subsequent ESBS project.
Project-Specific Governance
Future research and other data-collection projects will identify the institutional, ethical, regulatory and governance arrangements appropriate to that project.
Protection of Patient Information
Patient-identifiable information should not be submitted as part of centre registration. Future projects will separately define their approved data requirements.
Accurate Information
Information submitted for an institution should be provided in good faith and represent the best information reasonably available to the local team.
Recognition & Authorship
Contributor recognition, collaborative authorship and acknowledgement arrangements will be defined according to the design and contribution requirements of each project.
